A few months ago I started an art group for interested persons to get together and create art, share techniques, or just talk about art. We are creating a display that will be at the Seekonk Public Library in October. Each member has taken a few letters from the group name “Expressions.” Each letter will be on a 5 x 7 inch piece of paper, within or around the letter individuals can embellish with whatever they like, i.e. Zentangles, collage … I chose pen and ink with watercolor. Here is one of my letters in progress. My inspiration was my Koi in the backyard pond. I’ll post pictures of the display case after we set it up.
I am reading this very interesting book for a book club. I found it ironic that there is mention of Alfred Stieglitz, a photographer that I chose to emulate for a digital photography class. Before this I had never heard of him, but knew that Georgia O’Keefe’s husband was a photographer, just never knew his name. OK maybe it’s just strange to me.
My sketch pad tags along with me and is especially fun to have around for those times when you find you have a spare few minutes, or maybe when you want to relax on your deck. That’s where the sea horse came to life. I got the ideas from the many books on Zentangles that I have taken out at the local library. I haven’t shaded these pieces yet so they are unfinished. I also was thinking about copying them onto watercolor paper and doing a water color wash. We’ll see what develops. A goal is to create a nice line drawing of my dog, Odie and tangle him.
For some reason I cannot resize these two photos…I apologize that the sea horse is upside down.
A lovely bouquet of flowers will brighten even the darkest of days. It’s rainy and raw here in New England today. If it had been colder I’m sure we would have a foot of snow at least. I’ve posted three views of this basket of flowers…can’t decide which view I like best. Thank you Steve for the thoughtful gift. I will try to paint them, although I find flowers difficult to sketch.
