This painting is my first attempt at painting with acrylics on canvas. I started it last year at the Attleboro Museum with Lisa Granata. I just finished it at Lugar’s Art Studio with guidance from Nancy Lugar. I added the leaves on the trees, horses in the background, and repainted some of the hills. The area in the front is too dark, but I’m not changing it…time to move on. I actually looks much lighter outdoors. My next painting will be a misty forest scene in oil.
During last night’s session I mixed colors for the sky and tried my hand at painting clouds. I can see from this photo that I need to blend the sky a bit more. There is a definite line between the dark and the light blue…the atmospheric perspective. I will be working on the greens next week. My instructor advised me to get another green. I will get a cheap canvas board to do a mixing study using greens as well as mixing using Payne’s grey and yellow, ultramarine and yellow, etc. Maybe I won’t get very far in actual painting next week, but it will help me in the long run.
